Seriously?
I can rant a bit, can’t I? After all, it is my blog and my husband certainly doesn’t like to listen to my grumbles. And if you don’t want to read them either, then (than?), of course, skip this post.
I was laid off mid-November 2008. After the layoff, which came as a complete surprise, I heard from a total of two people that I worked with asking how I was and delivering their condolences. To put this in perspective, I worked with and spoke to about 20 people on a daily basis. Not even my direct manager, who I thought I had a good relationship with, reached out to me. Not even a coworker who I worked on a major account with most of everyday contacted me. I reflected on it a bit, realized that maybe they all just didn’t know what to say, and let it go.
Let it go…until…
I receive an email from one of those 20 people…telling me that s/he heard about my new job, checked out the website, and is going to apply for a job there, and AND and can I please refer her/him. Seriously? Seriously.
Although I very much wanted to reply, I thought better of it and just didn’t respond. Then s/he sends a second email asking if I got the first and giving me another opportunity to recommend her/him for a job at my new employer.
I didn’t reply to that one either.
