Pleading the Fifth
I made it through one day without crap TV! Yes, yes, I know you’re proud. And shocked. I certainly am. In fact, not only did I not watch any reality TV, I hardly watched at all. I watched Court Television now called Tru TV (how ironic I know) for about twenty minutes over lunch and count it as educational. They are airing a criminal trial of a man accused of savagely murdering another man, who just happened to be gay.
This counts as educational because I learned the Florida law surrounding witnesses taking the ”fifth.” They pretty much can’t as it basically lets the jury read between the lines and potentially assume reasonable doubt (why would someone plead the fifth unless they had something criminal to hide). In this particular case, a witness, who is also awaiting his own trial for taking part in the murder, pleaded the fifth out of the presence of the jury. Fascinating stuff. Horrendous crime.
