Disney Ain’t Nothin’ Special
Per an article on CNN (http://tinyurl.com/da7qaq), Orlando and Disney World, specifically, are not being spared from the economic slump with Disney expecting layoffs. Please raise your hand if you are shocked. The renowned Disney World impacted by a significant increase in people losing their jobs and homes and filing bankruptcy? That just doesn’t make any sense. (Please note the intended sarcasm.)
After wincing as my debit card was depleted $200, we entered the wondrous Magic Kingdom just last week. This was my third visit in 5 years, and I noticed a considerable difference in the upkeep of the Park this time around. In fact, my sister and I commented that the entire day we saw only one Park employee sweeping. (We even took this picture of him.) There was also quite a bit of litter around and dirty benches and tables. This compared to my first visit in 2003 in which my husband and I marveled at the cleanliness and the large number of workers out with brooms.
Although the CNN article states that “guests visiting the parks” won’t see any difference due to Disney job cuts, I find that difficult to believe and nearly impossible. Based on the overall shabbiness I saw first-hand last week, it seems the illustrious Disney is just like the rest of us – struggling to hang on.
