I Said No to Crappy TV

March 3, 2009

What's not to love in Big Love? The one week (last week) of no crappy television has been declared an absolute victory. It is riveting that only one week of awareness on changing a behavior was such a success. In fact, I didn’t miss watching the s***** shows, such as “Real” Housewives of Orange County and Bridezillas, at all. There were a few times where I slipped and five minutes into TLC’s Toddlers & Tiaras realized that I was wickedly making fun of the mannerisms of one of the father’s. I quickly changed the channel chiding myself for my bad thoughts and reconfirming that these types of shows bring out the worst in me. With this realization, I’m committed to not wasting any more of my life watching such trash.

Now, the point of clarification to this commitment is the fact that I will continue watching numerous fictional shows, such as Nip/Tuck (I heart Dr. Christian Troy), Big Love (who can’t love this tangled polygamous family), and Damages (I find myself wanting to take notes on the plot to keep it all straight). These fascinating shows in particular are so far beyond the norm – my norm – that they keep my attention week after week. Perhaps it’s my human desire to dissect outliers…and I can’t fight that. (This sounds like a plausible scientific excuse, and I’m sticking to it.)
