10 Thoughts on Growing (gulp) Older

July 26, 2009

top-ten-tuesday

Let’s start out with the bad first…

5 Not-So-Good Things about Growing Older

1. Double Chin – Admittedly this may have more to do with me-digits, but I’m working on it

2. So Much Responsibility – House, Dog, Husband, Bills, Kids, Job, oh my.

3. Diminishing IQ – I only spelled ‘diminishing’ correctly because my misspelled words are underlined in red, forcing me to correct them. God bless technology.

4. Watching my parents grow even older

5. Memory Loss – Now, where’s my darn phone?! Dangit, was I suppose to pick up the kids?

And now the (forced) positivity!

5 Rockin’ Things about Growing Older

1. I get to say “I’m the Mommy, that’s why” and “It’s my house, that’s why” – While I do say these things, it’s not after my kids ask “Why?” only because they really aren’t allowed to. I don’t need to be asked why by an 8 year old darnit.

2. Increased wisdom in not taking insignificant things so seriously because you know it all works out in the end

3. And when it doesn’t work out, you don’t collapse and pout; you move on. Okay, sometimes I pout.

4. Memory Loss – Sometimes it can be to my advantage. “What? I don’t think I spent that much. Wait, did I?”

5. Knowing that retirement isn’t too far away. And at least one out of my three kids better be way financially successful because they are indeed our 401(k). Please, God, please.

How about a fist bump? I think that’s what the kids are doing now a days. Either that or gang signs, but I don’t know any.

omg…remember that I am older than you…so how do you think that makes me feel!? i don’t think your diminishing IQ is accurate…you have just replaced the space in your brain that spells correctly with something more important or vital. I feel (most of the time) smarter and more well spoken the older I get. The voices in my head are much more experienced than when I was in my 20′s (just a couple years ago).

Yeah, maybe they were right hen they said we shouldn’t try to grow up to fast huh? I find myself saying that to older cousins and getting the eye roll!

One good thing I’ve realized about getting older….you can look back and see how far you’ve come and laugh! Years ago when I was immature and staying out until 4am causing trouble, I never thought I would have a real job and real mortgage!
