Review: Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder

February 4, 2010

Now, even a beta mom desperately trying to get healthy by eating well and working out like a fiend still has to try and look her best! In my past reviews, I’ve recommended the two best ways to get your sandpaper-feet smooth (here and here), how to cover up those things you don’t want anyone to see and even the cutest bags to store all your junk in. Time for a beauty product review!

Allow me to begin by explaining that I really like Bobbi Brown cosmetics and books. (And you so already know where this review is going, don’t you?) She seems like a great gal and her products and books are wildly successful. There are so many reasons to like her and her stuff. I even wear something from her line mostly every day. (That’ll be another review.)

This time, let’s talk about Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder. I was super excited to try it because while I don’t need a replacement for my foundation, I needed an on-the-go pressed powder to use as touch up during the day. Sorry to say but I didn’t find that it is worth the high price tag. Among prices for pressed powder, this one is on the higher end at $32. At least on my higher end.

Compact - I don’t need to write on and on about how the compact looks – If you’re reading this you’re already familiar with a pressed powder compact. You get it. This one really is nothing special although it is larger than most. It is sturdy and includes a nice big mirror and applicator. If I were judging solely on the look of the compact, this would be a different review. But, unfortunately, this is where my positives begin and end.

Applicator – The included round applicator is rough and just plain cheap. It actually reminds me of an applicator you’d get with a Cover Girl compact for six bucks. It’s not something I would expect to be part of a $32 item.

Powder - The powder offers zero coverage and is extremely… well, powdery. I don’t want everyone to be able to see that I’ve put it on. If that’s the look you’re going for, then this is the product for you. I decided to ditch the shitty application round sponge thingie and just use my fingers. I dabbed on a bit to cover up a small reddish breakout. Yeah, didn’t work. While the powder feels smooth, once it hit my face, you could totally tell that I’d just tried to cover something up.

Clearly, I am disappointed with Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder and do not feel that it is of the high quality that I’m used to with Bobbi Brown. I’ll certainly continue to buy her products, but this one is going back. (And a special shout out to Bloomingdale’s for their understanding return policy. Holla!)

Disclaimer: I bought this item with my own cash. Wasn’t paid to write this review. It’s just my opinion.

Ugh! I’m sorry this did not work out for you. I always wonder about higher end cosmetics (you know, are they really better than their less expensive counterparts?). I’m glad you were able to return (or exchange) for a better product.
