This Week’s Goals

February 22, 2010

Hello, my name is Sheri (and you say “Hi Sheri”), aka One Beta Mom of onebetamom.com, and I’m unhealthy.

Which makes me overweight and sedentary. And I’m doing something about it… I’m out of the denial stage, that’s for sure. Especially when I posted my before pics for everyone to see. My goals are not to simply lose weight but are greater – to live a healthy life, be a role model for my kids, and be active. The result of going down this path is that I spend a lot of time reading and researching on just how I can live a healthy life. If I know better, it’s just that much easier to do better. One of my recent posts that you may enjoy is the result of my reading on blood sugar and its impact on weight loss – Talk to Me Sugar.

In addition to focusing on the type of foods I choose to eat, I’m also working on simply moving more. I find it quite challenging to get in a straight 30 minute workout every day so am taking more lunch walks (even in the current Chicago weather) and walking the dog in the morning.

This week (beginning for me yesterday) I’m focusing on two key items: Protein Intake and Exercise.

  • My protein intake goal is to focus on high-quality food items, including carbs with little to no sugar, and taking protein powder, which helps burn fat and makes my workouts even more effective.
  • My exercise goal is to get in 30 total minutes of activity every single day, Sunday through Sunday.

It’s also important for me to remember what I have accomplished thus far. I gave up my addiction to Diet drinks a few months back. I went cold-turkey from overindulging in 4 cans a day on average to drowning in water instead. This is a huge accomplishment for me and one I tried several times before and failed. The key for me was learning the harmful effects that this type of habit has on my body. I’ve been rewarded by noticing the difference in my body by not being as tired.

And who doesn’t like weird vegetables? I’m trying new veggies and letting you know what I think. Last week I tried radicchio, which is more fun to actually say than eat, but that’s my opinion!

Another big accomplishment for me is participating in a fat loss group lead by Beverly Monical. I do a weekly video interview on my progress (or lack thereof) and participate in a call with the other two members, both with a focus on keeping ourselves motivated and encouraged to eat right and exercise. Participating in this group has really opened my eyes and leads me to do all the learning I can on living a healthy life.

And through it all, I keep in mind that I did not gain this weight overnight, and you know how it ends…. It’s not going to come off overnight either!

I missed your post. So sad about it. Can you post again this Monday and put it in the discussions above the comments in the Mamavation Group on Bookieboo. Would love to have you as a Sista.
