Slow Carb Hour 98
I’m into my 2nd week of the Slow Carb diet and going strong.
One word to describe this? Surprise. Read more…
“Strung out on crack”
Thank goodness this lady – Carol Moseley Braun - has very little chance of becoming Chicago’s next mayor. Read more…
Taking Measurements
Sticking with my plan, I took my measurements so that I will be able to tell how many inches I have lost.
If you’re following the Slow-Carb Diet, here is what you should measure using a simple tape measure.
Both upper arms - mid-bicep
Waist - horizontal at navel
Hips – at widest part below waist
Both legs - mid-thigh
Hi mom Thinkin about you
Note: If you received a post update email from me last night and clicked on the link only to find the post deleted, take my word for it and forget about it. I had a momentary lapse in judgement and allowed my anger to surface towards people I don’t even know. Or maybe I know them, but anyway.
On a much happier note, check out the picture below that Zane drew for me in Paint and put on my laptop’s background as a surprise. He gushes with sweetness and never fails to bring a smile to my face even through my tears. (Click to see bigger so you can read what he wrote.)
Slow Carb Hour 42
Note: This is the first update of my slow carb diet from The 4-Hour Body book by Timothy Ferriss. Look here for my first post so you can catch up. Or just scroll down.
It’s been 42 hours, and I’m still going strong on my slow carb diet experiment. Fortunately, several of those hours consisted of sleeping, which might be adding to my success. Read more…
The 4-Hour Body – Cruel Book Title
The 4-Hour Body is not my 3rd book for my 25 in 2011 because I haven’t read it beginning to end yet.
Even the author, Timothy Ferriss, recommends that readers not read it beginning to end and only read the chapters that are relevant to them.
So, that’s how I started – reading the chapters that I personally need to read – and it turns out
it’s the first 100 pages, and guess what the topic of those 100 pages is…. Read more…
4 reasons why Debt Wise is not the answer
As a quick follow-up on my DebtGoal review, I wanted to talk about Debt Wise, which is pretty much the same type of online program. Just like with DebtGoal, you enter your debts into Debt Wise and it magically spits out a monthly debt payment plan for you. And, just like DebtGoal, Debt Wise is $14.95 a month. Read more…
Online Savings Accounts – I approve!
You’ve been living under a rock – and I’m jealous of you – if you didn’t know that you could save your money in an online bank. And it’s all done fantastically-electronically with no trips to the bank. Nice!
A savings account at an online bank is also a convenient way… Read more…
25 in 2011 – Books 1 & 2
I’m on track for my 25 in 2011 with 2 books finished! And they are two completely different books – I like variety – and I get to recommend them both to you. Read more…
Debt Spreadsheet – Found!
Oh Google, the things you do for me! Just imagine what it gave me with the search “debt stacking excel spreadsheet”?
You got it, numerous spreadsheets that I can use to essentially mimic for free what I’d have to pay $14.95 a month for over at DebtGoal.
I tested out the Debt Reduction Calculator at vertex42.com, the home of all-things Excel it seems, by clicking Download Now. (Go do this now! And you can click on the image at the left to see the spreadsheet that you’re going to use.) Read more…
DebtGoal Review
Heard of DebtGoal? It’s a site that gives you a customized payment plan for your debt – the worst 4-letter word in our language. If you’re considering signing up, take a look at my walkthrough and read what I think about it. Read more…
Beyond Scared Straight
Wow. Have you watched the new AETV show Beyond Scared Straight? The boys and I watched it last night, and we were blown away. Finally a reality show in which we can learn something – in this case, just how much we don’t want to go to prison. Read more…
No Good Title
I owe a lot of personal thank yous to a lot of you out there for letters and emails you have sent. A lot of people are those I’ve known well in the past and just lost touched through the years as tends to happen. Unmistakably, your words and thoughts and prayers mean so much. And I know it’s not easy. What do you say and write to someone like me? What do you say, what can you say. Read more…
Hi-hi-Hi!
After my last few posts, we need to laugh, and this will make you at least smile.
This is one of my dearest and bestest friend’s baby-son, Musa. Brought to you by Musa (of course) and my son Zane’s You Tube account!
Tucson tragedy
It’s really hard to find words to write and talk about this horror and the lost baby-girl.
My prayer is that the family is comforted somehow through their faith, and I pray they have faith.
My prayer is that their family and friends shield them as much as possible.
It’s very difficult to see your child’s picture on TV and all over the newspapers. It’s hard to know your tragedy is the hot things in the news for the moment.
I can’t even begin to imagine or think about the funeral “protest”… This world lacks a lot – especially empathy.
Bad things happen
You might have heard about the recent Houston Chase Bank robbery in which hostages were held for several hours. Probably because I had recently watched The Kill Point mini-series on Netflix which is about such a situation (and is a thrilling mini-series)…. Read more…

Who needs a good-intentioned but short-lived New Year’s resolution (right?!) when instead you can have a goal that is purposely designed to take you the entire year to accomplish! If you like to Read more…
The Value of Community Colleges
Worried about paying for college? This should make you feel better!
Last year I had the honor of helping a young man, then a senior in high school, with the college process. It seemed that he was completely off his private school counselor’s radar, and his parents asked for my help. We followed the FAFSA process, applied for several private scholarships, and applied at a handful of colleges he was most interested in. Read more…
… And out with a bang!
Yeah, literally, bangs! Thank you Julia R. at Hairitics for hooking me up. My hair feels and looks great! (Gee, if I do say so myself.) I’d been wanting to do this for a long time now, and finally just did it.
I have had absolutely nothing and still have nothing profound and thoughtful to write, which is why I’ve been MIA. So, today, I resorted to these few pics to close out the year and to just say hello to you. And that’s about all I can manage!
Not a word
So many people have talked to us about what happened. And they are hard conversations.
Then there are those who have said nothing. Not a word. People we see quite often and without a doubt know what happened. Not a word. No acknowledgment.
It makes me very angry. Can you not acknowledge that our family isn’t complete and one of us that you used to see all the time isn’t here? I guess it’s too much to ask. Shame on you. Am I judging you? Abso-f-n-lutely.
I don’t care if you don’t know what to say. It’s not about what you say. It’s that you said something. Anything. Anything to acknowledge her.
